Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

I don't live in the Chicago area. Can you still design, build, and install a custom staircase for me?

A:

Stairmasters is located in Cortland, Illinois, approximately 50 miles east of the city of Chicago. Our service area typically encompasses projects within a 50 mile radius of our headquarters. If you're unsure whether your location falls within our coverage area, please contact us for a specific response.

Q:

Do you construct the staircase on site or at your factory?

A:

All construction is done on site to ensure that our stair and rail systems provide you with a custom appearance and secure installation.

Q:

How long does it take to install a staircase?

A:

Depending on the size of the project, installation can take anywhere from 3 to 5 days.

Q:

Are you the manufacturer of the stair components you sell, or the distributor?

A:

With the exception of the custom newel posts, which are manufactured in our Cortland facility, Stairmasters is proud to be the distributor for many of the industry's finest manufacturers of quality stair components.

Q:

Is there a minimum number required when ordering stair components such as balusters or fittings?

A:

No - you can order as many or as few as your project needs.

Q:

What hardwoods do you use in your staircases and stair components?

A:

Stairmasters works with any industry-available hardwood: ash, birch, cherry, hard and soft maple, heart pine, hickory, mahogany, poplar, walnut, white oak, white and yellow pine, as well as the tropical hardwoods such as African cherry, Brazilian cherry, and Zebrawood.

Q:

What is the finish on your staircases and components? If I'd like them stained or painted, do you provide that service?

A:

Our staircases and stair components are delivered prepared for final finishes, but we do not provide painting or staining service.

Q:

I'm planning on selling my home but would like to remodel the central staircase. Will this add value to the asking price?

A:

Undoubtedly it will, but more than that, a custom staircase adds visual impact to your home, and sets the standard for quality that will carry over into the rest of your home's interior ambiance.
